Medal Requirements

Complete all requirements and check them off as you go. Your parent will verify your work.

1

My Challenge Declaration

Identify a real, meaningful personal challenge you are currently facing or have recently faced. Write a 1-page declaration explaining the challenge, why it matters to you, and what you hope to learn from it.

  • Be specific — "I struggle with public speaking" is stronger than "I want to be more confident".
  • This must be a real challenge, not a hypothetical one.
2

Setback Journal

Over 4 weeks, keep a weekly journal documenting at least 3 specific setbacks related to your challenge. For each entry: describe what happened, how you felt, and what you tried to do about it.

  • Honesty is assessed — not positivity. Do not hide your struggles.
  • Minimum 200 words per weekly entry.
3

Coping Strategy Research

Research 3 evidence-based coping strategies relevant to your challenge (e.g., mindfulness, cognitive reframing, physical exercise, social support). Write a short report explaining each strategy and why you chose it.

  • Cite at least 2 credible sources (books, academic articles, reputable websites).
  • Connect each strategy directly to your specific challenge.
4

Strategy in Action

Apply at least 2 of your chosen coping strategies for a minimum of 3 weeks. Document your experience: what worked, what did not, and what surprised you. Include photos, screenshots, or other evidence of practice.

  • Keep a brief daily or weekly log — even 3 sentences per day counts.
  • Photos, screenshots, or app data all count as evidence.
5

Peer or Mentor Conversation

Have a meaningful conversation with a peer, teacher, counsellor, or trusted adult about your challenge and what you have learned. Write a reflection on what they shared and how it changed your perspective.

  • Can be written, audio, or video format.
  • The conversation must be real — not imagined.
6

Growth Reflection Report

Write a final 2-page reflection comparing who you were at the start of this medal journey to who you are now. What did you learn about yourself? What would you tell a younger student facing the same challenge?

  • Reference specific moments from your earlier milestones.
  • Minimum 2 pages. Quality of reflection matters more than length.
